Comparison/Contrast Writing Assignment

Write an essay using one of the topics listed. If you choose "writer's choice" for your topic, be sure to clear the topic choice with your instructor. Your essay should be a minimum of three to five paragraphs, 300-500 words in length, and no more than three pages. Be sure your essay conforms to MLA format.

Here are some suggested topics for writing a Comparison/Contrast multi-paragraph essay:

  1. Two ways to prepare for a test. 
  2. The requirements for two jobs or careers. 
  3. Your life now with your life five years ago. 
  4. Two films on similar subjects. 
  5. Learning something from experience and learning something from books. 
  6. Two singers or musicians. 
  7. Parties, weddings, or funerals in two different cultures. 
  8. Two popular television programs of the same type (i.e., newscasts, sitcoms, talk shows) 
  9. Two attitudes toward one subject (i.e., firearms, education, immigration, welfare)
