ACTIVITIES
Narrative Activity
One of the most difficult
lessons for students of writing to learn is the necessity of
providing crisp, clear details to support main ideas. To this end,
each of you will receive a 3x5 index card, on which you will write
the name of a common object (e.g. comb, spoon, notebook, etc.).
After the instructor collects the cards, students will break into
groups of three or four. The cards will then be redistributed, one
card per student. Each group member will give clues about the object
on the card. See how many of you can guess the object written on the
card. If time permits, see how many well-written, detailed sentences
each group can construct from the words on the cards. Words or any
part of speech may be added to enhance the sentences.
