Thomas J. McHugh is  professor and longtime chairperson of the Communication Arts Department at Luzerne County Community College. Prior to joining LCCC, Tom held the post of Vice President and was also a member of the senior management staff at public broadcast stations WVIA-TV and FM .
        Mr. McHugh earned a Masters of Science Degree in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University, was graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education and also holds an Associate Degree from LCCC. He is a graduate of the Leadership Wilkes-Barre Program.
    Throughout his career at WVIA, Tom has held various positions of increasing responsibility including Vice President of New Enterprises, and Station Manager of both WVIA-TV and WVIA Radio. Through his leadership, WVIA has been recognized regionally, state-wide and nationally with award winning initiatives including recognition by The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (EMMY).
    Mr McHugh has personally been recognized for his fostering of the cultural enrichment of the community by being selected as a recipient of the Northeastern PA Philharmonic's Gold Baton Award. Tom also received the Pennsylvania Department of Health's "Reaching Out Award" for supporting numerous organizations that help children with special health care needs. He is also an Award Winner from NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) for teaching and leadership excellence.

        Tom has been active in various civic and community groups including the Greater Pittston Area Meals on Wheels, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania -  Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  In addition he has served on the Board of Directors, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation; Volunteer Action Center of United Way; Financial Advisory Board — Pittston Area School District; Education Committee, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority; Past Grand, Thistle Lodge 512 IOOF;  Past President, Hughestown Boys League; Past President and lifetime member of the Hughestown Hose Co. No. 1.
