First, choose the mode of analysis you will use: directional or informational.

Next, choose a topic with some complexity and originality. [No recipes or how to change a flat tire!] Remember the pitfalls described in "How to Say Nothing in Five Hundred Words."

Then, write a draft of a process analysis.  Follow these guidelines:

 Introduction:

Grab the readers’ attention.

bullet

Name the process to be described.

bullet

Indicate its importance.

bullet

List any materials needed.

 

Body:

bullet

Describe steps in chronological order

bullet

Place each step in its own paragraph

bullet

Describe each step thoroughly

bullet

Use transitions between steps and between ideas.

bullet

Include a special warning or emphasize a crucial step.

 

Conclusion:

bullet

Describe the result of successful completion.

bullet

Re-emphasize the importance of familiarity with the process.

Minimum length: 500 words

Due Dates:

First draft: Monday, 10/29

bullet

Final draft: Monday, 11/5
