Course Title: Developing Online Materials Using Microsoft FrontPage 2000

Hours: 42

Number of Lessons: 12

Course Description:

Microsoft FrontPage is a powerful yet easy-to-use website development tool. This course will introduce the basic features of Microsoft FrontPage used to develop web pages, and show how the advanced features can be used to create educational websites and online courses.

Course Objectives:

Student will demonstrate their understanding of the basic components of web pages and HTML by creating different types of web pages using Microsoft FrontPage 2000. These web pages will comprise an educational website designed by the student.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to describe the purpose of the different components of a web page and of an HTML tag. Students will create several web pages based on the criteria given in the course, including an overview or introductory page, a content page, an assignment page, an annotated links page, a simple online quiz, and a feedback form page. The student will publish these pages to the web and evaluate the work of other students.

Assessment and Grading:

The following are acceptable assessment methods for this course:

  1. Web Query Assignments: As the student completes the web-based materials for the course, he or she will be asked to respond to short answer questions that require application of the material covered.
  2. Observational Assignments: Students are required to communicate with their teacher and fellow students using email (both individually and through the class mailing list) and in the class newsgroup. This participation will be evaluated based on successful subscription to the mailing list and newsgroup and the initiation and response to at least one discussion topic.
  3. Web Site Assignment: The student will be required to create an educational web site based on the criteria in the class. These criteria will include the minimum components required for a passing grade; students who include more than the minimum will receive higher grades.
  4. Exams: Evaluation of cognitive objectives consisting of questions (single best response, multiple true/false, short answer) and tasks to be completed by the student concerning email, newsgroups, and finding information on the Internet.
