Bio: Jane Klesh Butkovsky is an artist and art instructor who resides in Hazleton, PA. She has shown in both one-person and group shows including the Bradshaw House gallery in Birmingham Ala., Kings College, Wilkes Barre, PA. and the Hazleton Art League, Hazleton, PA.

Her work has also been accepted to numerous national and regional exhibitions in New York City and around the country. Among them, The National Academy of Design, The American Artists Professional League, Audubon Artists, The Salamagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, and the American Impressionist Society.

Jane is the recipient of several awards such as The American Artists Fund Award, The American Artists Professional League, 75th annual Exhibition NY, NY, The Butler Institute of America Art Award, Allied Artists of America, 90th Exhibition NY, NY, the Catherine Lorillard Art Club Award, and Salmagundi Club 22nd Annual Exhibition NY, NY.

She has studied under renowned artists including, Robert Brackman, Henry Hensche, Charles Reid, and Everett Raymond Kinstler. Jane teaches drawing at Luzerne County Community College and drawing and painting privately.

Artist’s Statement: I am an academic painter using traditional and contemporary subjects. These subjects are personal in nature creating a feeling of time or description from my life. This work exemplifies a commitment capturing the illusion of form, space, and composition. I work directly from both life and photos carefully depicting the interplay of light, shadow, and space. My compositions are academically designed arranged in a theme with each object complementing the other in a meticulous formation of balance, repetition, and diversity.

Artist’s Statement: Michael Molnar is an academic painter in the traditional sense. Michael has painted portraits and still lifes for thirty years. Attention is detail and strict adherence to the principles of the old masters, allow his to paint quickly and flawlessly. He received his BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art; there he met renowned artist, sculptor and author Joseph Sheppard. Sheppard taught him the importance of gleening lessons through intense and ongoing study of the “Old Masters”. Matthew Sponenberg

Susan Sponenburg

Bio: Susan Sponenberg is the Chairperson of the Visual Communications Department. She has been with LCCC since 1971. In addition to teaching, Susan is an equine artist,  an Associate Member of the Academy of Equine Art, and a member of the Cider Painters of America. She has 22 limited edition prints and 3 open editions published through Sportsman Specialties. She has self published several giclée prints. Her largest project was a series of eight murals 6X26 feet each that she did for Yonkers Raceway.

Susan had developed identity packages for several large horse farms and organizations including Graemont Farm, Hobbie Horse Farm, International Equestrian Federation, Carl Asmis Dressage Federation, Northeastern Horseman’s Association, FairHill International, and Radnor Hunt to name a few. She designed the current specialty license plate for Kentucky.

Susan has had work published on several covers of the Chronicle of the Horse and The Equine Marketer. She has done portrait commissions for many noted horseman and exhibits her work through Delphine Gallery in Chestnut Hill, Berdsford Gallery in Unionville and Saratoga Springs, and Chadds Ford Gallery.

Artist’s Statement: “Messanger” was exhibited at the American women Artist’s invitational in San Antonio, TX, and won an award of merit.
Bio: Enthralled with fine arts since a young age, Leah F. Waichulis, enjoyed drawing and painting before attending elementary school, was a finalist in a national art competition at age 11, and had artwork exhibited at a gallery by age 15.

Her strong educational background, earning an Associated Degree in Painting/Illustration and studying at The Waichulis Studio, a phenomenal atelier founded by her husband Anthony J. Wachulis, enables her to combine unique contemporary subject matter with a traditional technique.

Leah F. Waichulis has exhibited nationwide, including invitational exhibits at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the McLarry Fine Art Gallery in Sante Fe, NM, where she exhibited with the American Women Artist’s and won an Award of Merit. In July, she was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Salon International 2005 at the Greenhouse Gallery. International Museum of Contemporary Maters, in San Antonio, TX.

Artist’s Statement:  This particular image is off the north west wall of Grand Cayman Island in the Caribbean.

Bio: Jimmy has been a photojournalist since 1984 with most of his career being spent on the staff of a daily newspaper. Currently on the staff of the Press Enterprise, in Bloomsburg. May previously spent 11 years with the Citizens’ Voice in Wilkes-Barre. He has won several awards for his photography ranging from Associated Press’ national member showcase and Pennsylvania’s member showcase photo of the month along with making www. MSNBC.com Week in Pictures to state awards from Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association and Pennsylvania Press Club. May has been an adjunct faculty instructor since 1997 where he teaches photojournalism along with basic photography. Along with his photojournalist work, May has had several underwater images publish whish were captured in locations from the Caribbean to the South Pacific.

Artist’s Statement: I work primarily as a documentary/editorial photographer that examines the human condition. As a storyteller, it is the opportunity to explore new cultures, grow as an individual, and be part of a lifestyle in which I am unfamiliar that keeps me photographing the projects I select. As a photographer I welcome the unknown and become part of the environment I am documenting. This approach has helped me develop a style that in intimae and based on the rich personalities of those I photograph.

My work can be seen in numerous publications and has been exhibited in galleries and museums within the United States and beyond.

Photographic projects include: “Faces of Haiti:, which documents the beauty of this island country and its people, “Near Death”, a photographic essay of the terminally ill, “Pride”, which captures the unity, spirit, and love within the black community, and “Southern Accents”, a look at the rural south and the civil rights movement.
