The ABLE Net project has developed a web page that contains a wealth of information and links of interest to adult basic education and literacy programs in Pennsylvania. It was designed to decrease the need to surf or search for sites and information about technology funding, pending legislation, professional development, school-to-work, lesson plans, etc. 

The ABLEsite - the official Web site of the Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education.  The ABLEsite is designed to be a rich source of information and contacts for the profession as well as for other human-service agencies and the general public. The highlights are as follows:

• Frequently asked questions about adult basic and literacy education in Pennsylvania.

• The Provider Directory online...click on your region of a state map and get a full listing of ABLE-funded providers in that region, including E-mail links.

• An introduction to EQUAL (Educational Quality for Adult Literacy), ABLE's program improvement initiative, and Indicators of Program Quality.
• Professional development area...information on Pennsylvania's 6 regional Professional Development Centers, information on AdvancE and the Western Pennsylvania Adult Literacy Resource Center, Guiding Principles of Professional Development as adopted in PA, plus links to other key adult education sites.
• GED area...what the GED is all about, plus a complete listing of GED Test Centers in Pennsylvania
• Publications area...Download free copies of What's the Buzz?, NCLE Notes,and Learning Disabilities back to Fall 1996 issues.
• Other publications can be mailed directly to practitioners, such as The Focus Bulletin, a collection of a variety of interests to the adult education practitioner.  GED Items is a publication that provides updates regarding the GED test.  Copies of these publications are also available in the ALTA Office.
