Adult Learners' Training and Assistance Program

Luzerne County Community College

Since 1987, the Adult Learners’ Training and Assistance Program (ALTA) has existed to enhance the basic skills of adult learners. Our mission is to offer educational programs that are accessible and flexible in delivery, while maintaining an open entry/open exit policy. The ALTA Program fosters values for lifelong learning, respect for diversity, and development of students as contributing members of society.  Educational goals are set by individual learners and are defined by the adult learner’s perceived roles as workers, family members, and community members.

The ALTA Program is funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Education,
the Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) and
the Workforce Investment Act.
